Barnard Fire District Responds to the Residential Structure Fire;

At approximately 22:45 hours on January 12, 2026, the Barnard Fire District was dispatched to 49 Brayton Road in the Town of Greece, for the report of a house on fire in a two-story, two-family residence. Crews arrived on scene within three minutes, at 22:48 hours, and observed smoke coming from the structure.

Firefighters made a rapid interior attack, and by 22:53 hours, water had been applied to a fire located on the second floor. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished. At 22:56 hours, interior crews completed a primary search of the residence and confirmed that no additional occupants remained inside.

The fire was declared under control at 23:09 hours. One resident was evaluated and treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

Barnard Fire District was assisted on scene by the Ridge Road Fire District and North Greece Fire District. The St. Paul Fire District provided District coverage to handle additional calls in Barnard, during the incident. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to four displaced adults. The Monroe County Fire Bureau is conducting the investigation, to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

The Barnard Fire District reminds all residents to ensure that every level of your home is equipped with a working smoke detector. Working smoke alarms save lives and provide critical early warning in the event of a fire.
