NOTICE
*NOW ACCEPTING ALL APPLICANTS WITHIN MONROE COUNTY*
Volunteer firefighters come from all walks of life providing dedication, service, and sacrifice to their communities. It is not a job....it is a calling. It is a sense of pride and belonging to a group of individuals looking to achieve a common goal....to better themselves and their community.
Why become a volunteer firefighter at the Barnard Fire Department? The Barnard Fire Department has been serving the residents of the Barnard Fire District for over 99 years. Over these years we have transitioned from a Combination Volunteer Fire Department supported by Career Firefighters to a Combination Career Fire Department supported by Volunteer Firefighters responding to over 3900 calls for service last year.
We have changed from an organization where you dropped what you were doing at home and responded to the Fire Station to an organization where you schedule your service time to meet your busy life.
By scheduling your time you ride with our Career Firefighters, Career Firefighter/Paramedics and Career Officers who will help train and develop you into a member of our team. Members do still respond to the Fire Station to man Reserve Fire Apparatus as needed.
As a volunteer, you will be expected to:
1) Attend Department Monthly Meeting.
2) Schedule a minimum of 10 hours a week to participate with the on duty career staff.
3) Complete NYS Firefighter 1 (160 Hours - 2 Weeknights, Saturday) within 18 months.
4) Recommended completion of the NYS Emergency Medical Technician (180 Hours - 2 Weeknights) within 36 Months.
5) Complete Monthly Training Topics (Hands-on and Online) as assigned by the Training Division.
6) Complete yearly required Hands-on Training Topics as assigned by the Training Division.
7) Participate on Department Committee's.
8) Participate in Department Fundraising Activities.
These things do require a time commitment, but the life of a volunteer firefighter is extremely rewarding.
Training never stops on your journey as a volunteer firefighter. You will have the opportunity to train to become an apparatus operator, volunteer fire line officer, and other positions.
You will also be given the opportunity to participate in the Governing Offices of the organization.
If have a desire to serve with us and meet the minimum requirements:

2) Valid and Current NYS Driver’s License
