By Fire Chief Stephen Andrews
October 1, 2026

This is a retirement announcement from the Barnard Fire District. Dated September 29th, 2026

After 45 years of dedicated service to the fire service, including 32 years with the Barnard Fire District, Assistant Fire Chief Steven Dorgan is completing his final shift today and retiring.

Chief Dorgan began his journey as a young Hamlin Fire Explorer in 1973, following in the footsteps of his father and along side his brother Skip. Chief Dorgan rose up through the ranks and served as the Hamlin Fire Chief in the mid 90s.

Steve served the Eastman Kodak Fire Dept starting in 1982 at both their Elmgrove Facility and Kodak Park.

In 1989 he was a member of MCC’s first paramedic class, a longtime instructor with the Monroe County Fire Bureau, and a mentor to countless firefighters throughout our community.

Steve joined the Spencerport Fire District in 2011 and has held the position of Fire Commissioner to this day.

Chief Dorgan has provided countless hours of instruction and support as a fire instructor with the Monroe County Fire Bureau.

Steve joined the Barnard Fire District in 1993 as a part time Paramedic and laborer. In 1996 he moved to a full time role and has served this district with distinction for more than three decades, ultimately becoming Assistant Fire Chief in 2011.
From the Barnard Fire District, thank you for your 32 years of service to the Greece Community.

Thank you for the lives you touched, the firefighters you taught, and the communities you served.

Your service may be complete, but your legacy will continue.

Congratulations, Chief, and enjoy your retirement.

** Thank you to photographer Heidi Cappon for the photographs.
