| International Fire Fighters Day, is observed on May 4th to honor the courage, dedication and sacrifices of fire fighters worldwide. This day commemorates those who have died in the line of duty, supports their familes, and gives thanks to the active fire fighters protecting our communities. State Fire Administrator James Cable said, “This weekend is a solemn one — one we spend remembering our nation’s firefighters who put their lives on the line every day. Twenty-eight New York firefighters are to be honored at the National Memorial this year. We will always remember their bravery and we thank them for their service.” 17 landmarks across New York State were illuminated in Red, on Saturday evening including locally, the Lift Bridge in Fairport. Barnard utilizes 4 Duty Groups, that rotate on and off duty, for 24 hour assigned shifts, then return to duty 4 days later (24 on and 72 hours off). The Barnard Fire District is very proud of our personnel and their skills and tactics, that stand ready to respond. The District joins our residents in thanking our personnel, who report for duty and respond to the emergency needs of our District residents, business's and visitors. |
