House Explosion at the 800 Block of Stone Road Leaves 3 injured.
Authorities Continue to Investigate Cause
Greece, NY – November 12, 2024– Authorities are currently investigating the cause of an
explosion that occurred in the 800 block of Stone Road just before 5:00 am on November 11,
2024. The home was leveled by the explosion, all three residents were able to escape the
explosion, however all three were injured and transported to local hospitals. Emergency
responders from the Barnard, Ridge Road, North Greece, and Lakeshore Fire Districts as well
as Greece Police and Monroe Ambulance all rushed to the scene following reports of the blast
around 4:55 am, which caused significant damage to the home and neighbors' home and
surrounding area.
The explosion has shaken the local community, and our hearts go out to those affected by this
tragic event. We are working closely with Greece Police and Fire investigators from Monroe
County Fire Bureau to understand what caused this devastating incident.
Immediate Response
First responders from Barnard, Ridge Road, Lakeshore, and North Greece Fire Districts as well
as the Greece Police Department and Monroe Ambulance, arrived on the scene shortly after the
initial 911 call reporting a house explosion. Responders quickly moved the victims away from
danger and began emergency medical care, securing the area to ensure public safety. Due to
the devastating explosion, a second alarm was called to bring in additional first-responding
companies which allowed for a quick containment and stopped the spread of fire to additional
houses. The three injured individuals were immediately transported to nearby hospitals by
Monroe Ambulance.
Ongoing Investigation
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Monroe County Fire Bureau and
Greece police are working in partnership with, RG&E to determine the source and any
contributing factors. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
Residents
At the time of the explosion, the home was occupied by a female in her 20s as well as her
Mother and Father. The resident's name will not be released at this time. All three remain in the
hospital with Burns. Mom and Dad are stable, daughter is in guarded condition.
No first responders were injured.
Public Safety and Assistance
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel and
investigators to work. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is
encouraged to contact 911.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of the community as we work to get to the
bottom of this incident. Our primary focus is to ensure the safety of all residents and to support
those affected. The Red Cross will be providing housing assistance once released from the
hospital to the residents of the home as well as the residents of the homes next to the
explosion.
The Barnard Fire District would like to thank everyone who helped out with this
devastating event. Including the 911 Emergency Communications Center, Monroe
Ambulance, Greece Police, and the Monroe County Fire Bureau. The Barnard Fire District
was assisted at the scene of this event by the Ridge Road, North Greece, Lake Shore Fire
District, Gates Fire District, and Saint Paul Fire Districts. Several other Fire Districts
provided coverage “fill-ins”, to ensure the community remained protected throughout the
duration of this event.
