Fire Prevention Week: Oct 3-9 |
Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with |
Presented by the Fire Departments in the Town of Greece |
| |
During Fire Prevention Week, we are asking families to preplan a fire escape plan and practice it. On Saturday October 9th between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, we will be holding a town-wide
fire drill. Fire departments in the Town of Greece will have fire trucks traveling throughout local
neighborhoods to help anyone who has questions on how to conduct their fire drill. If we
miss you, please feel free to contact your local fire department if you have any questions about
your home fire escape plan.
To encourage you to plan and practice your home fire escape plan, the Town of Greece Fire
Departments are once again offering students a chance to win a Ride to School on a Fire
Truck. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are eligible to participate. There will be a
second handout sent home soon with all of the details!
During the month of October, the four fire districts in the Town of Greece will each be holding
an Open House for the public. There will be trucks and other equipment on display, as well as
tours, and free giveaways for the kids! Check the schedule below to find out when the fire
department in your district is holding their open house. |

Fire Prevention For Kids and Families |
Sparky the Fire Dog® needs your help to spread the word about this year's Fire Prevention Week theme: "Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With". Use the materials in this section to learn about the importance of smoke alarms and other fire safety tips.
- Smoke alarms save lives. But you need to make sure they are working. Download Sparky's smoke alarm safety sheet (PDF, 904 KB) and hang it on your refrigerator or some other handy spot. It will help remind you to test your smoke alarms every month.
- Pictorials are a fun reminder to kids about the importance of working smoke alarms and having a home escape plan. Print out the boy (PDF, 874 KB) and girl (PDF, 862 KB) pictorials and hang on the fridge - you can even laminate and make into a placemat!
- You and your family should develop and practice a home fire escape plan. Download our escape plan grid (PDF, 648 KB) and practice your escape at least twice a year! More information about home escape planning.
- Visit www.sparky.org to find games, crafts, stories, and safety tips for kids and families.

Escape Planning |
|
Fire can spread rapidly through your home, leaving you as little as two minutes to escape safely once the alarm sounds. Your ability to get out depends on advance warning from smoke alarms, and advance planning — a home fire escape plan that everyone in your family is familiar with and has practiced. Learn more… |
